Vreeland

Vreeland is a graphic memoir I worked on from 2006-2009 while taking care of my grandparents. It remains unfinished, but I hope to complete the tale over the next few years.
In any case, I think the individual chapters have held up pretty well:

I came here through your RuPaul’s Drag Race illustrations and started poking around. I read all of Vreeland and wanted to thank you for this story; you’re a sensitive storyteller and you’ve really thoughtfully captured the banality, resignation and perseverance of real life — those almost otherworldly periods of existential crisis that everybody goes through. I hope you’ll pick up and continue the tale – I’m now an invested reader.
I’m glad your grandparents have had each other for all those years; I really believe that our relationships with each other are the most important investments we make in life. I look forward to seeing more chapters.
Thank you!
Craig
Thanks so much, Craig! I have, actually, been revisiting Vreeland recently, but am still at the writing stage–figuring out how to restructure things, what to cut out, etc. I’m glad it moved you!
Like a lot of your readers, I found you through your Drag Race illustrations (and have sense nagged all of my friends to view your work, even if they don’t watch the show). I’m actually really amazed you can produce all of this very, very personal work for the rest of the world to see. It’s awesome, you’re awesome…the end.
